Bushenyi: Increased murder cases attributed to domestic violence
Police in greater Bushenyi region has attributed the increasing murder cases to domestic violence and excessive consumption of alcohol.
Martial Tumusiime, the greater Bushenyi region police spokesperson said in the last two months the region had 26 murder cases saying these are too many.
According to Tumusiime, Bushenyi is leading the table of murder cases with 11, followed by Sheema District with 8, Rubirizi has 1, Buhweju has 3 and Mitooma has 2.
He added that two of these have been taken to court and nine are still under investigations.
Tumusiime attributed the increasing number to dominant domestic violence and alcohol mainly in the two districts of Bushenyi and Sheema.
Mishael Teriyeitu, the regional child family protection unit greater Bushenyi said there is a lot of land conflicts because several heads of the family die without making clear wills.
He said that some of the cases are caused by extra-marital relationships where some men have failed to satisfy all the parties and this has forced women to connive with their children to kill family heads.
Teriyeitu further attributes the killing of young girls to men having sex with more than one person and some girls invading marriages with intentions of ruining people’s marriages.
