Mbarara City Boda boda elections suspended
Authorities in Mbarara City have suspended the elections for the Mbarara City Boda Boda riders’ top leadership over alleged irregularities.
The suspension comes a day after the nominations were halted by the Resident City Commissioner, James Mwesigye over alleged fraud.
On Monday, Mwesigye postponed the nomination exercise to Tuesday, but members of the Independent Electoral Body led by Chairperson Richard Kiggundu were a no-show at the nomination center in Kamukuzi.
Kiggundu and the Boda Boda riders held an emergency meeting at the City Council Hall and the City leadership resolved to suspend the elections.
Asse Abireebe, the Mbarara City Clerk says they have suspended the election and disbanded the electoral body citing fraud in the process.
Robert Mugabe Kakyebezi the Mbarara City Mayor says they have agreed to meet the Boda Boda riders and the electoral body to streamline the process and hope to have a new election roadmap before 23rd December.
