Five arrested after armed thugs shoot cashier, rob UGX 95m
Police in Kamuli district are investigating circumstances under which a GM sugar weigh bridge cashier was allegedly robbed of UGX 95m by unknown armed thugs.
According to police, Kobil Goswami alias Hash, the cashier, at GM Sugar weigh bridge premises located at Luzinga central 1 zone, Luzinga parish, Wankole sub-county, Kamuli district was attacked, shot and injured before he was robbed of UGX 95m on Sunday.
Micheal Kasadha, the Busoga North Region Police spokesperson, confirmed the robbery and shooting, saying they have so far arrested five people to help with the investigations.
Kasadha said the five people arrested on suspicion of robbery include Moses Kiirya, Alex Waibale, Malicana Kiirya, Adam Baliruno, and Painedo Ojole.
“The attackers shot Kobil in the left shoulder while demanding for money. They allegedly searched the house which yielded access to UGX 95 million, before they fled the scene,” said Kasadha.
According to police, the victim was rushed to Nile international hospital in Jinja city where he is currently admitted for better management.
Police visited the scene and managed to recover some exhibits and investigations into the matter continue.
